Benjamin A. GILMAN International Scholarship: The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000.
Who: This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding. Upon completing the Gilman, students are expected to perform a service project, for the community or campus that promotes the Gilman and/or study abroad. Applicants should have a good academic record, strong essays and an appealing proposal for a service requirement. Gilman also seeks diversity of academic major, destination, and demography. Study outside of Western Europe/Australia is encouraged. Ideal applicants also lack prior study abroad experience.
Duration: Semester or academic year
Number and Amount: Approximately 1200. Up to $5000 (based on need and program cost). An additional $3000 is also available through the Critical Need Language Supplement (50 awards for language study vital to national security).
Deadline: October 4th, for spring and summer (early deadline) study abroad programs. Summer (final deadline), fall, and academic term applicants apply in March.

Freeman-ASIA Scholarship: Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. The program’s goal is to increase the number of U.S. citizens and permanent residents with first-hand exposure to and understanding of Asia and its peoples and cultures.
Who: Must be a U.S.citizen or permanent resident who currently receives need-based financial aid to participate in the proposed study abroad program. Must have a minimum 2.8GPA and have applied or have been accepted to a study abroad program in: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
Duration: 8 weeks (summer), 12 weeks (semester)
Number and Amount: Up to $3000 (summer), $5000 (semester), $7000 (academic year).
Deadline: October 20th for Spring study abroad Programs.
