May Graduation – Save the Date

For those graduating in May, 2018.

We will hold our departmental graduation ceremony on Friday, May 11th. The time has not been confirmed yet, but usually our ceremony is mid-afternoon (start time between 2-3pm). The university-wide ceremony will be held Saturday, May 12 at PNC Arena. NO TICKETS are required for either event. There is NO guest limit for either ceremony this year.  You may bring as many friends and family as you like. Most universities in the area graduate this same weekend, so now is the time to start booking accommodations for your out-of-town guests.

Both ceremonies require you to be wearing a red NC State cap & gown.  Information about announcements and graduation robes can be found here. A few years ago we began a gown donation program for undergraduates.  We have about 5 gowns that are available to borrow on a first come, first serve basis.  If you are interested in borrowing a departmental gown, email me your height ASAP and I will let you know if we can loan you one.  Likewise, for those of us who purchase a cap and gown, please keep us in mind after the ceremony, future graduates will appreciate your donation.

PRIVACY ADJUSTMENTS –  Names of graduating students will not be published in the graduation program or in any official press release if the student has a privacy setting preventing such release. Students graduating in May 2018 must ensure that their “privacy settings” in the MyPack Portal indicate their intention for inclusion in or exclusion from these publications no later than March 1. It is YOUR responsibility to check your Privacy Settings. You can find more information on privacy settings here.

CHECK YOUR DATA – Has your name changed recently or is it listed in the system the way it should appear on your diploma? Use the Name Change Form to update your name. Check your address in MyPack Portal to ensure that your diploma will be mailed to the correct location.

Departmental Speaker – Several semesters ago, we began a new tradition of having an undergraduate speaker at our departmental ceremony. I will be sending out a separate email to those who have applied to graduate with instructions on how to apply. Please keep an eye out for this.
