Tim Wallace Research Endowment Scholarship

We are pleased to invite applications for the Tim Wallace Research Endowment Scholarship for Spring 2019 or Summer 2019. Funds will be awarded to an undergraduate in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences for use toward travel and research-related expenses while conducting independent research in a Latin American or Caribbean country.  Acceptable research expenses include, but are not limited to, supplies, equipment, publication-related costs, conference travel, etc. The scholarship carries a maximum amount of $1,500 and cannot be renewed.
 
First preference shall be given to degree-seeking students in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology who will conduct research in Guatemala or another Central American country.  Second preference shall expand to degree-seeking students in Sociology and Anthropology who will conduct research in other Latin American or Caribbean countries.  Third preference shall include degree-seeking students in International Studies or another social science discipline (Communication, Political Science, Psychology, or Social Work).
 

Students wishing to apply for the Tim Wallace Scholarship should:

  1. Have a faculty mentor identified for their independent research.
  2. Prepare a research proposal
    .
  3. Complete a budget of expenses related to the research.
  4. Review the 
    attached Proposal Scoring and Rubric Sheet that will

    be used to assess your application.

 
Interested students must submit:
1) A detailed proposal, including: hypothesis/question development, references and background information

 from the discipline, research methodology, and goals & timeline for research (maximum 1,500 words). The rubric should aid in constructing your proposal.
2) Completion of the budget worksheet (attached).
3) One letter of recommendation from a faculty member (other than Dr. Tim Wallace, who is generously funding this award).
 
Applications are due to Dara Leeder, 106 Caldwell Hall, dara_leeder@ncsu.edu, no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, November 30   Applications may be submitted via e-mail or hard copy. Recommendation letters should be e-mailed separately by the faculty member to Ms. Leeder, or can be brought in a sealed envelope to 106 Caldwell Hall by the deadline.
