The Applied Sociology Internship offers upper classmen sociology majors and minors (in both sociology
and criminology) the opportunity to use their theoretical foundation to address social problems in real
world settings while earning 3 credit hours at the 400 level (Soc. 492). Students are placed with a partner
organization in the community where they work with their agency supervisor to develop a set of tasks that
utilize their sociological skill set, research skills, and theoretical foundation and assist the agency in
meeting their agency goals. Students must have completed SOC 300 prior to enrolling in SOC 492 (the internship course).
Previous partner agencies include: Haven House, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, PLM Families Together, City of Raleigh, NC Child, JUNTOS, and many others!
